Abstract
The relevance of the topic. The growth of energy consumption, their limited reserves, climate change, increased environmental stress and other factors lead to the need to revise the energy doctrine and search for alternative energy sources. One of the promising areas is the use of renewable energy sources, which include solar, wind, river energy, as well as tidal energy, geothermal sources, and biomass. In this regard, the appeal to the problems of the use of renewable energy sources in the Russian Federation seems to be very relevant. Goal. A study of the state of the electric power industry in the Russian Federation and in the Kursk region, an assessment of the possibilities for the development of renewable energy sources. Methodology. Methods of research, analysis, systematization of data. Results and conclusions. For an objective assessment of the role of renewable energy sources, a detailed analysis of the state of the electric power industry in the Kursk region and the implementation of renewable energy activities in this region, the economic efficiency of their use in generating their own; the concept of renewable energy, the advantages of using renewable energy; the production of electricity in the Russian Federation in 2020—2021 was studied, the possibility of developing renewable energy for consumers was shown.
