Abstract
The relevance of the topic. The new role of regions in the modern world is explained by the crisis of unipolar globalization. Russia has sided with the leaders of modern regional politics — China, India, Saudi Arabia — in opposing the neo-colonialism of the West. Western countries, using the idea of a «unipolar moment» — a brief period of their domination in the mid-1990s, are trying to preserve a political initiative that no longer belongs to them. Goal. To consider the new role of Russia in regional politics. Methodology. The following research tools are used: comparative, historical, systemic methods, structural and functional analysis and the neoinstitutional method. Results and conclusions. The leading regions and countries of the world — China, India, Russia, the Islamic world, Africa and Latin America — are no longer controlled by the liberal West and seek to resist the neo-colonial onslaught of the Anglo-Saxon world. Russia is bringing stability to regional politics by creating a new balance of power in the modern world. The scope of application. The results of the study can be used in the study of regional security problems of the Russian Federation.
