Identification of prerequisites for the development of the direction of ecological tourism in the Kursk region and development of a mechanism for forming a strategy for sustainable development of ecological tourism in the region. M et h o d o lo g y. The study used quantitative and qualitative methods of analysis, as well as structural - functional and systemic approaches. R e s u l t s . Based on the analysis of modern models of ecological tourism and approaches to the interpretation of the concept under study, the authors proposed a definition of «ecological tourism». It is concluded that the Kursk region is attractive for consumers of a tourist product and has a huge potential for the development of ecological tourism due to the presence of unique natural resources and a complex of specially protected natural areas. A mechanism for forming a strategy for sustainable development of ecological tourism in the region is proposed. A p p l i c at i o n a r e a . Performing educational, environmental, recreational and economic functions, ecological tourism contributes to the sustainable socio - economic development of specific territories.
