Subject . Rating as the analysis tool is a universal tool for assessing the results and regional development forecasts. A study of the Voronezh region innovative activity is carried out through rating assessment tools of the region’s location as part of the constituent entities of the Central Federal District. Topic. Ranking method, logical and comparative analysis approach. Results. The location study of the Voronezh region in the innovatively active region ratings and the promising activity ratings showed significant development. So in the composition of the Central Federal District constituent entities, the Voronezh Region ranks sixth and is included in the group of medium strong innovators according to the rating of the Association of Innovative Regions of Russia. The applications statistics of intellectual property objects in 2019 makes it possible to classify the Voronezh Region as one of the top three regional leaders in the Central Federal District. As a tool for assessing of patenting activity in the region, it is recommended to rely on rating models based on methodological approaches of the relevant modern innovative standards used in Russian state statistics, foreign countries and international organizations. In Russian practice, the most successful models of regions innovative development ratings are applied by the Higher School of Economics, the Association of Innovative Regions of Russia, and the HigherSchool of Public Administration.
