Based on the analysis of modern concepts of economic space, this concept is justified as a scientific category of regional economy, and the conclusion about the need for its use in regional economic research is substantiated. The economic space is structured into functional subsystems, the totality of which determines the processes of formation and development of the economic space. The modern regional science developed several conceptual approaches to a research of economic space, each of which offers the differentiated view of the nature, essence and functions of economic space that is reflection of internal complexity of a phenomenon of economic space. There is a requirement of further scientific research of economic space and formation of integration approach to a research of economic space of the region.
