The relevance of the topic. Social networks and online media play a key role in spreading information and shaping public opinion, and can seriously influence public sentiment, including political ones. Digital channels today instantly disseminate news information and shape public opinion, which makes trust in them an important factor influencing the socio-economic sphere of society. Trust in digital media can be lost due to the massive spread of fake news, artificial intelligence technologies, manipulation by bloggers, as well as insufficient control over their activities. In the light of these challenges, it becomes especially relevant to consider the prospects for developing trust in digital media and finding ways to improve their reliability and professionalism. Goal. The need to analyze the existing threats from the Internet media to the political stability of the Russian Federation in the context of geopolitical tensions. Methodology. Such methods of scientific research as analysis, generalization, and a systematic approach are used. Results and conclusions. Online media can be used to widely disseminate disinformation and fake news. This poses serious threats to public safety and trust in information resources. Online media are actively used to manipulate mass consciousness through purposeful influence on the emotions and beliefs of the audience. The results of the study emphasize the need to develop and implement effective measures to regulate online media in Russia to prevent threats to society and individual users.
