Abstract

Despite the fact that since 2014 there has been a downward trend in the number of road traffic accidents and the severity of their consequences, the high accident rate, causing both death and injury of people and loss of material assets brings a significant damage to the country's economy. Moreover it has a great impact on ensuring the economic security of the Russian Federation. The article analyzes both the foreign and domestic methods for assessing the “cost” of human life. The theoretical approaches to assessing the socio economic loss of road accidents adopted in countries with a high level of motorization are analyzed. The domestic methodology for calculating the loss resulting from the deaths and injuries of people on the basis of direct and indirect economic damage is considered. The magnitude of the loss resulting from the deaths and injuries of people was calculated on the example of the Voronezh region. The conclusions about the appropriateness of the use of programtarget and goaloriented approach as a way to reduce the socio economic consequences of the accident are made.
