S.A. Starykh , V.V. Likhachev , V.D. Zolotukhina
The relevance of the topic. Nuclear energy has long been seen as a potential solution to meet the world’s energy needs. In this regard, it is necessary to justify the advantages of using nuclear energy to ensure the sustainable development of world energy, as well as to identify current problems related to the use of nuclear energy. Goal. To give an idea of the potential of nuclear energy and how it can be implemented to achieve a sustainable future. Methodology. Methods of research, analysis, systematization of data. Results and conclusions. For an objective assessment of the role of nuclear power in the sustainable development of the energy sector, a detailed analysis of the advantages and disadvantages of the atom in comparison with both classical and increasingly popular renewable energy sources was carried out, key disadvantages, problems and threats associated with the operation of nuclear power plants were identified, their solutions were proposed and the possibility of their implementation in the foreseeable future was assessed. Nuclear energy is a clean and efficient source of energy and can be used to produce electricity without releasing harmful pollutants. In addition, nuclear waste can be safely stored and disposed of, making it a much safer option than fossil fuels. Nuclear energy can also be used to produce heat, which can be used for domestic, industrial and agricultural purposes. In addition, it can be used to produce hydrogen, which is a clean source of fuel and can be used in transport. Atomic energy can also be used to produce medical isotopes that are used to diagnose and treat diseases. Finally, nuclear energy can be used for space exploration and other scientific research. Thus, nuclear energy not only contributes to the sustainable development of the energy sector, but can also be part of complex solutions to other urgent problems facing both humanity as a whole and individual States. Scop of application. Economic analysis, public administration, macroeconomics, sustainable energy development
