The relevance of the topic. The Russian mining industry has traditionally been oriented towards foreign markets, which creates a structural dependence of both production volumes and exploration financing on the global environment. Goal. An analysis of industry dynamics over the past decade shows a significant shift in investment priorities: from the dominance of the hydrocarbon sector to an increase in the share of rare earth metals, precious metals and strategic mineral raw materials. Methodology. System analysis, comparisons, induction, as well as a method of processing and visualizing research results. Results and conclusions. Under the conditions of sanctions pressure, the problem of depletion of the mineral resource base of critically important resources - apatite, lead, bauxite, tungsten and diamonds, where the pace of exploration does not compensate for production volumes, is becoming more acute. The adopted «Strategy for the development of the mineral resource base of the Russian Federation until 2050» defines new priorities for overcoming dependence on foreign markets and depletion of the resource base, including technological re-equipment of the industry and the development of domestic engineering for the mining industry.
